Ted flinches a little too, despite kind of expecting it. He was also expecting the screaming, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant to deal with. Especially given the last time he heard that particular voice shouting at him.
Still, he remains calm, at least outwardly.
"There's worse things than being a loser," he answers mildly. Something he very firmly believes. "How are you doing?" It's a genuine question, though he doesn't expect an actual answer.
