Ted was thinking about the 'kids playing doctor' type of insinuation, and would absolutely definitely not mention the other kind in front of Sherlock, because yes, that would be somewhat mortifying. (Which is not to say he wouldn't be interested in trying, it's just the kind of thing he would be extra private about.)
