formersurgeon: (in bed)

She smiles as he touches her face, her eyes shining, and reaches up to cup his cheek as well. It's amazing being on the receiving end of Ted's affectionate gaze. Again she feels the urge to tell him the words her heart is whispering, those three words to tell him how very dear he is to her. But she doesn't know if he feels the same. He loved his wife. He probably still does. Would he be able to love Joan without feeling conflicted? Would her professing her love for him make things difficult for him? Would it detract from this happiness they've found together?

She can't do that. Can't risk that. She feels Ted is pretty in tune with his emotions and good at telling people emotionally powerful things. She'll keep those words locked in her heart until Ted is ready to unlock them with his own words.

"I'm happy to be here," she says instead.
