As it turns out, Joan is sleeping in. The case concluded late the night before and into the early morning, with Joan and Sherlock questioning their suspect until the man confessed and gave up his immediate co-conspirators. He also revealed what Joan and Sherlock had suspected and feared: the cabal of jewel thieves had ties to Moriarty, Sherlock's ex and nemesis. They would have to figure out exactly what the connections entailed, but that would take time. For the moment they can breathe. And sleep. Both detectives crash hard once they reach 221B. Joan doesn't even stop to check her phone for texts from Ted.
Joan is fast asleep when her phone rings. She has to swim out of the deep slumber to be mostly awake when she answers the phone. She frowns at coach Beard's question.
"Um...no." She rubs her bleary eyes. "No, I've been on a case this weekend. I haven't seen him since Friday." She glances at her alarm clock. It's later than she thought. And about two hours after Ted usually starts practice.

She sits up straight.
"Wait...he didn't show up to practice?"
She's wide awake now.
