Joan's job is unpredictable, and while she can choose to step away and take a break, letting Sherlock pick up the slack (as she does for him on the occasions when he needs the time) it's possible, even likely, that someday she and Ted will be together and Joan's phone will ring and she'll have to leave to go to a crime scene. She follows him into the shower, under the spray of hot water, and sighs happily.
